A Houston car accident that left a 5-year-old girl in critical condition is being blamed on a 34-year-old drunk driver, but police are also investigating the role that the bar that served him may have played.
The driver, who has been charged with two counts of intoxication assault, is Isreal Suarez Lugo, who
Michael Colchado said, “He drove around the vehicle and tried to run the red light and hit the vehicle.” After striking the vehicle at the light, he that crashed into the victims, who were traveling in a black Cadillac.
The Houston car accident injured the child as well as her aunt, Kimberly Saucedo, who had to be taken to the hospital. Another adult and child were also in the vehicle. Colchado reports having run towards the vehicle to help and says he remained on the scene until medics arrived. “I knew the people needed help,” he said. Police on the scene believed that Mr. Lugo was driving under the influence based on both statements from witnesses. He also failed field sobriety tests.
Houston Car Crash Investigation Will Include Bar That Served Drunk Driver
The Harris County District Attorney’s Vehicular Crime Division is investigating the Houston car accident, and has already identified the bar that served Mr. Lugo prior to the cras as the Time Out #1 bar. “We’re going to find out if in fact he was there, and if not, where he was. We’re going to find out who was serving him and if someone overserved him. This is not a minor issue, but it is an over-service issue from the evidence we’ve seen so far,” said Sean Teare of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. “We are going to obtain everything they have. We’ve been told they have surveillance footage and detailed receipts from that night.”
