How Long Does It Take From Exposure To Mesothelioma Diagnosis?

Hi. My name is Anna Jackson. One of the questions that I get quite often when I get a phone call from individuals that have been exposed to asbestos is, “How long does it take from the point of being exposed to the point of actual diagnosis?” On average, the latency period, is what they call it, is anywhere from 10 to 60 years. So, there are other factors that can determine how quickly an individual would be diagnosed. One of the factors could be the type of work you did and the length of exposure at that type of work. If you worked in a shipyard, you know that there was very, very heavy exposure there. There are other things that may take longer because it could be secondhand exposure. You know, on average, is anywhere from, 10 to 60 years.
